The year-end holidays are the ideal time to pause and not only evaluate the performance of the last year, but to also make plans and resolutions to take on the challenges of new and improved business practices in the coming year. As an entrepreneur, I always use this time of year to refresh and renew my mind and spirit by spending time with family, friends and colleagues, and to plan for the coming year with resolutions for business ventures in the upcoming year. Charles Kettering said it well, “Every time you tear a leaf off a calendar, you present a new place for new ideas and progress”. Here are five resolutions to help improve your business in the new year.

1.Bigger Picture: Visualize your business potential and possibilities

While organizations share their vision at each level within their company, there is also a need to see the bigger picture in order to visualize future potential and possibilities. With this visualization, everyone associated with your business will have a clear understanding of where the organization is going. Teams will strive to reach that goal and everyone involved will ultimately become the vehicle of success for your business. According to scientific research: visualizing improves performance. While listing your business resolutions for the new year, be sure to include this point and plan to visualize the bigger picture to everyone involved with your business.

2.Holding Hands: Plan to join a business-networking group in your industry

No one can do everything by themselves. We need alliances to help propel our business toward a successful path. It’s great to have a vast network relevant to your industry, where different minds can generate a variety of ideas. By joining relevant business-networking groups in your industry, you will become a more active participant within your respective business community. But how to join one? If you’re a small time player, you’re bound to struggle for attention of the big boys. In that case, you have to build a reputation for yourself. What better place to start than social media – in the end it’s the beating heart of the internet. To build yourself up, you’ll need to have your SM profiles promoted by The Marketing Heaven in order to gain visibility – and respect. Once you are established as a force to be reckoned with, you’ll be allowed into all sorts of places. Before you know it, you’ll by allocating time in your calendar next year for conferences and business networking summits. 3.Back to basics: Revamp and re-focus to simplify your business processes

It is time to spend some time on your business model, even if it you feel it is already ideal. Take a look at process improvements that might help your business success grow. What processes can be avoided to save time, cost, or energy? Complex work processed slow down the productivity and increase the possibilities of mistakes. You can use your time efficiently by simplifying these processes. Saving time and money is a major advantage of simplifying business processes.

4.Risk Free Investment: Plan investing more in your teams

Employees are your biggest assets. While planning the expansion of other business assets, include the aspect of employee growth and expansion as well by focusing on key performers. Trainings and skill enhancement yields optimal results for the future of your business, so it is worth taking the time to develop and prioritize. You do not want to exclude this risk-free and safe employee investment in next year’s agenda.

5.Payback: Plan ways to give back to community

What goes around comes around. Close your list of resolutions with this noble aspiration and consider ways to give back to the community. It could be supporting a cause by donating a portion of your profits to organizations working hard to combat hunger or poverty, or it could be things like sponsoring an event for the disabled, conducting free workshops to teaching skills for free, or supporting other charity work.
